As recommended by the Commission on Human Security (CHS), the Advisory Board on Human Security (ABHS) was established to carry forward the recommendations of the CHS and advise the UN Secretary-General on:
- The general guidelines for the United Nations Trust Fund for Human Security (UNTFHS);
- Methods to increase the impact of projects and activities funded by the UNTFHS;
- Ways to promote and disseminate the human security concept and deepen its understanding and acceptance worldwide.
The ABHS is an independent body composed of ten distinguished members known for their breadth of knowledge and their deep commitment to human security.
The tenth meeting of the Advisory Board on Human Security (ABHS) was convened on 11 and 12 April 2011 at the Beekman Tower Hotel, New York. The meeting was chaired by Mrs. Sadako Ogata and was attended by the following Board members: Professor Adebayo Adedeji, Mr. François Fouinat, Ambassador Matjaž Kovačič, Mr. Vijay Nambiar, Ambassador Tsuneo Nishida, Ms. Sonia Picado, and Mr. Bradford Smith. Also present were Ms. Valerie Amos, Under Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator; Ms. Frene Ginwala and Mr. Peter Sutherland, former members of the Commission on Human Security (CHS); Mr. Yukio Takasu, Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Human Security; representatives from the Permanent Mission of Japan; representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan; as well as the staff of the Human Security Unit, OCHA (HSU/OCHA).[More...]
