On 3 September, 2005, the United States government accepted the offer of the United Nations for assistance in relief efforts. The UN has mobilized three inter-agency teams to work on logistics and coordination along with US authorities. At present one team is stationed at the US Agency for International Development's Hurricane Katrina Operations Center in Arlington, Virginia. Two others will shortly be deployed to Texas and Georgia. The Red Cross
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), working closely with the American Red Cross (ARC), has launched a special webpage to help those seeking to re-establish contact with family members and friends. The service is available in English at http://www.familylinks.icrc.org/katrina. French and Spanish versions of the webpage should be available by 3 September.
American Council for Voluntary International Action - INTERACTION
INTERACTION has both a list of its members accepting contributions as well as guidelines on the most appropriate ways to assist those affected by hurricanes.
