International Emergency Stockpiles - Who Has What Where?

REDESIGN OF THE DIRECTORY OF EMERGENCY STOCKPILES (July-Oct 2008)

In 2005, the Humanitarian Response Review recommended an expansion of the global mapping of relief stocks. Consequently, in 2006, the Logistics Cluster in collaboration with OCHA decided to re-design the functional requirements of the existing directory of emergency stockpiles (contained in the Central Register of Disaster Management Capacities) in order to make it a dynamic tool, easier to use to reflect actual stocks.

Consequently, the evaluation of the information flow of the existing directory of emergency stockpiles and recommandations were made to enhance and add new features. A questionnaire was widely disseminated to gain further understanding of the needs of the humanitariran community and to compile this information in a useful and effective manner. This phase is now over.

The second phase, which consists in the development and deployment of the redesigned directory will start early Februayr 2009.

Emergency Stockpiles of
Disaster Relief Items

The DIRECTORY OF EMERGENCY STOCKPILES OF DISASTER RELIEF ITEMS provides information on emergency stockpile such as:

  • its location
  • the stockpile holder
  • the disaster relief items stocked and their specifications
  • conditions and procedures for access to the stocks
  • existing facilities and arrangements for Customs clearance and transportation
  • etc.

This directory should enable UN agencies, intergovernmental, governmental and non-governmental organizations to quickly identify and contact appropriate authorities which could provide the required disaster relief items.
