Guidelines for shelter assistance

From mid-2003, LSU started to get involved in shelter-related issues, mostly through the coordination of shelter sector actors in the establishment of standards and guidelines to strengthen humanitarian response and the design of shelter strategies.

With the Humanitarian Reform, LSU reaffirmed its prominent position in the coordination of shelter discussions by becoming OCHA focal point for the Emergency Shelter Cluster.

During emergencies, LSU attends Emergency Shelter Cluster meetings at the global level and disseminate information within OCHA and to partner agencies.

Outside emergencies, LSU participate in the Emergency Shelter Cluster Working Group to review with partners the current global preparedness activities.

At last, LSU is also OCHA focal point and representative in the Shelter Meetings. The Shelter Meeting is a sector forum service. Its purpose is for participant organisations to discuss, coordinate and agree initiatives, policy, good practice and technical specifications relating to the transitional settlement and reconstruction needs of populations affected by conflict and natural disasters.

LSU is currently involved in the following shelter coordination activities:
