Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Jan Egeland, at the first press conference after the tsunami and earthquakes affected South Asian countries. He assured that the UN was ready to provide assistance and stated that United Nations Disaster Assessment and Coordination teams had already been dispatched to the affected area to work with national authorities in providing search and rescue assistance.
