Pillar I

Against the background of existing chronic deprivation, generalized violence, natural disasters and ongoing limitations to essential services, the humanitarian situation in Iraq continues to be mixed with certain regions exhibiting continuing acute vulnerability and unmet needs.

The UN Country Team, International Agencies, and International and National Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) are currently working towards the development of the Consolidated Appeal 2009. The appeal aims to identify core strategic priorities and an appropriate response to complement the efforts of the Government of Iraq and better focus interventions for 2009.
