Enhancing Human Security: Developing Capacities to Protect and Assist Victims of Human-Trafficking March 28-30 Jeju, Republic of Korea Jeju International Training Center (JITC) in cooperation with UNITAR

Participants at the event will discuss issues related to human security and human trafficking.The workshop will cover the following areas: 1) Introduction of the concept of Human Security and its development, 2) Round table discussion on key challenges and ‘One-Stop Shop’ practices, 3) Overview of the regional trends of trafficking, 4) Lectures on protection of and assistance to victims, and 5) Bad/Good Practices and Key Case Studies in Protection of Victims.

This course has an average turnout of 250 international applicants each year, including both academics and practitioners. It will include seven modules consisting of human rights, development, peace-security and relevant mechanisms.

The purpose of this conference series is to explore the concept and approaches to human security with its new challenges and perspectives in Turkey. The conference series will provide a forum to explore how human security is perceived in Turkey at academic, policy and practical levels in terms of the difficulties faced and the responses that have been designed and undertaken. Themes include: State-centred security; the politics of human security; peace and conflict; reconstruction and development; environment; socio-cultural dimensions; and; the international context.

This course will explore challenges and opportunities for successful humanitarian assistance and longer-term needs for ensuring the social well-being and development of fragile states. It will serve as a forum on how social reconstruction and human security can enhance peace and stability operations, humanitarian assistance and development. It will highlight that enhancing social well-being in fragile states, such as the promotion of peaceful coexistence between parties to the conflict, dealing with the needs of refugees and displaced persons, and strengthening civil society, are all critical cornerstones for sustainable peace.
