12 September 2008: In September, hurricanes Gustav and Ike left a path of destruction in Cuba, disrupting the lives and livelihoods of hundreds of thousands. CERF responded immediately, allocating nearly $7 million to seven UN agencies in a multi-sectoral show of support. Emergency projects will provide emergency food assistance, shelter, reactivate agriculture, re-establish local health care, provide potable water, improve sanitary and hygiene conditions, and provide a safe educational environment for affected children. Hundreds of thousands of the most affected families will be assisted in this coordinated effort.
