9th Meeting of the Human Security Network - Ljublana, Slovenia

The 9th Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network (HSN) was hosted by the Government of the Republic of Slovenia in Ljubljana on 17 and 18 May 2007. During the Slovenian chairmanship, "the HSN strived to draw international attention to the emerging threats to people's safety, security and well-being and to advance human security issues at all levels," described Dr. Dimitrij Rupel, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Slovenia. Among these, special attention was accorded to the protection of children from all forms of violence which was also the focus of the debate at the 9th Ministerial Meeting. Further to the participation by the fourteen members of the HSN, the meeting also benefited from in-depth exchange of views with representatives of international organisations, civil society and academics and focused on ways in which efforts can be made to further synergise the activities of the UN in this area.
