To highlight and explore the value-added of the concept of human security and its particular relevance to United Nations activities, representatives from the UN Secretariat, Permanent Missions, NGOs, academia and think tanks discussed the international impact of adopting a people-centered approach to security policy. Amongst the panelists, Sir Richard Jolly, Honorary Professor at the University of Sussex and co-director of the United Nations Intellectual History Project, presented the findings of a 2006 UNDP sponsored report analysing fourteen country programs, and highlighting the value-added of using the human security concept as a framework for analysis in National Human Development Reports. Further presentations were made by S. Neil MacFarlane, co-author with Yuen Foong-Khong of Human Security at the UN: A Critical History; Andrew Mack, Director the Human Security Centre of the University of British Columbia and principal author of The Human Security Report 2005; and Don Hubert, Director of the Human Security Policy Division at the Canadian Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade.
