Activities in 2011
  • 5 December 2011: The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization held a Technical Discussion Meeting on Health and Human Security in Washington DC. The overall objective of the meeting was to discuss current global discussions on human security and to explore policy guidelines and methodological tools for applying the human security approach to health related policies and national plans. Among the presentations offered at the meeting,  Ms. Mehrnaz Mostafavi of the Human Security Unit-OCHA provided the participants with a step-by-step strategy for developing, implementing and evaluating human security programmes and projects.   • 14 - 16 November 2011: As a follow-up to General Assembly resolution 64/291 and the Secretary General's report on human security A/64/701, the Special Advisor to the Secertary-General on Human Security, Mr. Yukio Takasu, held informal consultations with Member States in New York.

  • 24 - 26 February 2010: ABHS Member, Mr. Francois Fouinat, visited the UNTFHS funded project 'Joint Support for Human Security in Honduras'. More information on the project which created and strengthened local networks to prevent and reduce youth and gender-based violence is availabe here.
  • 31 January 2011: The Inter-American Institute of Human Rights and UNDP Costa Rica launched a new website on ‘Human Security in Latin America’ as part of the joint project “Promoting and developing the human security concept in Latin America”, funded by the UNTFHS.
