Resources And Tools
The Joint Environment Unit understands that effective resources and tools are critical ingredients in preventing, preparing for and responding to environmental incidents to limit the impacts and environmental damage that can result.
The Joint Environment Unit has established a network of National Focal Points, on which it relies for expert advice and the provision of assistance for such matters.
The Unit has also developed a number of specific tools to assist those in the preparedness and response phases of the disaster management cycle.
Once an emergency has occurred, international assistance may be requested by completing the Environmental Emergency Notification/Request for International Assistance form.
WSSD Partnership on Environmental Emergencies
OCHA and UNEP launched, at the World Summit on Sustainable Development (WSSD), the Environmental Emergencies Partnership which aims to strengthen the international network for a more integrated approach to environmental emergencies management. NBC Threats
Given the growing concern with regard to nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) threats, the Joint Unit has compiled a list of useful resources that provide specific information on an array of related topics and established the Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Information Resources (CBRN page), with links to critical information and organizations directly involved in this issue.
