The Joint Unit is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year-round to mobilize assistance for those facing emergencies.

The Joint Unit may only mobilize assistance when specifically requested to do so by an affected country. Assistance to environmental emergencies can be requested by:

• 'Environmental Emergency Notification/Request for International Assistance' form. This form should be completed by national authorities and sent to the Joint Environment Unit.
