Extending Food Security and Income Generation - Cambodia

Objective

Increase the level of food security of poor farmers in Cambodia by increasing agricultural productivity of existing crops to allow farmers to devote land, water and time to grow new and diversified crops, in order in turn to increase income generation, food quality and roll-back malnutrition.

Activities
  • Provide training sessions for poor farmer households to improve water control and engage in crop intensification and farming system diversification.
  • Support in the formation of Village Farmer Group Support Funds in targeted communities, with the establishment of micro-credit revolving schemes.
  • Support in the establishment of farmers organizations and water users communities, which will be empowered to develop their communities’ approaches for development activities on water control, crop intensification, livestock aquaculture and livelihoods.
Outputs (including distinctive aspects of the project)
  • 48 farmer’s organizations and farmer water user communities established and supported in 24 districts.
  • Farmer Field Schools established in 27 sites and communities, combined with 18 Food Security Schools, allowing for training of 1,316 farmers trained, 55% of which being women.
  • Pilot projects aiming at providing best practices and community development models implemented and tested  in 13 districts, and two villages hosted pilot Seasonal Planning and Village Planning training exercises, to be developed as future participatory planning models to increase food production and farm-income generation.
