Welcome to the homepage of the Afghanistan Early Recovery Network which was set up in April 2010. The aim of this page is to provide a virtual forum for ER issues and gather resources which can be of use to organizations working in the humanitarian and development sectors.
“Early recovery is a multidimensional process of recovery that begins in a humanitarian setting. It is guided by development principles that seek to build on humanitarian programmes and to catalyse the enabling environment for sustainable recovery and reconstruction opportunities. It aims to support self sustaining, nationally owned, resilient processes for post-crisis recovery. It encompasses the restoration of basic services, livelihoods, housing, governance, security and rule of law, environment and social dimensions, including the reintegration of displaced populations.” (Inter-Agency Global Cluster Working Group on Early Recovery 2008.)
The Afghanistan ER network is primarily composed of focal points from each of the clusters; however, like all good networks we hope it will expand beyond the clusters and encompass organizations and individuals who are concerned with promoting good practice in humanitarian response.
