Introduction
The OCHA Regional Office in the East was established in February 2008 to carry out the missions mandate which is “to mobilise and coordinate effective and principles humanitarian action in partnership with national and international actors in order to: alleviate human suffering in disasters and emergencies; advocate for the rights of people in need; promote preparedness; and alleviate sustainable solution”.
To this end, OCHA Regional Office in Jalalabad, in line with the overall objectives of the work plan and Humanitarian Action Plan for 2009-2010, the focus of OCHA ER will be to: provide support to disaster affected and conflict-induced IDPs, returnees and host communities strengthen civil-military coordination, advocate for humanitarian access and response through strengthened humanitarian coordination advocate for vulnerable population and improve preparedness for disaster outbreak and response.
OCHA Jalalabad Office
The OCHA Office is co-located within the UNICEF compound in Jalalabad. Currently, the office has two international Humanitarian Affairs Officer including head of Office and Humanitarian Affairs Officer/Civil Military Coordination Officer, three national Humanitarian Affairs Officers and a Admin/Finance Assistant.
Area of Coverage
The Jalalabad sub-office covers the four provinces in the Eastern Region including Nangahar, Nuristan, Laghman and Kunar. At the moment, two of the four provinces are covered by road missions including Laghman and Kunar. The Province remains completely inaccessible for the time being. of Nuristan
