Hear Our Voices - Chechnya RF Aishat's story
I am Aishat Bisultanova. I live in Leninsky raion of Grozny. In 2001 I was caught up in the shelling and lost a leg. My elder daughter was also wounded. I have three children and all the four of us have to live on my pension. People in Need helps us. If it wasn’t for them we would not be able to survive because no one in the family works. During the war my children and I stayed here in Grozny. I have elderly parents and because of them I could not leave the city with my children. Not a single foreign organization was present here during the war and no assistance was provided to us.. After the war a lot of organizations arrived. People in Need and the UN and started to help us. Their assistance helps me make ends meet. I am disabled and have small children. The assistance they give us - the food, clothes and shoes - helps us make ends meet. I would not be able to survive on my pension only. For me, the most important thing is to get a prosthesis if possible. We have a lot of needs but the main thing for me is prosthesis. I would like to say to the people who allocate funds to support organizations such as the UN and PINF, that the money does reach us. There are few jobs here today and the those that are available do not pay well. There are lots of disabled people in Chechnya like myself and I would like them to be reached by this assistance too. I could not provide clothes for my children to wear to school and they came and brought everything including notebooks. I would like to see this assistance continued for another two or three years so that the people can get back on their feet. Photo: OCHA |
