2 December 2009: The combination of inadequate housing and the lack of household and governmental means to sustain decent living conditions has increased vulnerability of communities to a level where the harsh winter (normally a manageable risk) has turned into a crisis, causing suffering and death.
Responding to the situation, CERF has allocated $1 million to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to provide winterization assistance to the vulnerable population. UNHCR will distribute firewood and repair emergency shelter for approximately 17,700 people.
