HIGH FUNDING LEVELS AT MID-YEAR OF HUMANITARIAN AID APPEALS YET HIGHEST EVER REMAINING REQUIREMENTS OF US$4.8 BILLION |

New York/Geneva, 21 July 2009 : Six and a half months into 2009, United Nations agencies, the International Organisation for Migration, and nearly 500 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) still require $4.8 billion to respond to the world’s most severe crises through this year’s Consolidated and Flash Appeals. A Mid-Year Review conference at the United Nations Office at Geneva today highlighted that overall humanitarian funding requirements for 2009 for the countries covered by 16 Consolidated Appeals or similar action plans and 2 Flash Appeals have increased by $1.5 billion since the start of the year, bringing the total target to $9.5 billion ... AT MID-YEAR, $3.4 BILLION STILL NEEDED FOR CONSOLIDATED HUMANITARIAN AID APPEALS |

New York/Geneva, 16 July 2008 - Six months into 2008, United Nations agencies, the International Organisation for Migration, and 239 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) still require USD 3.4 billion to respond to the world’s most severe crises through this year’s Consolidated and Flash Appeals. Overall humanitarian funding requirements for 2008 for the 34 countries covered by these 11 Consolidated Appeals and six Flash Appeals have risen from $5.4 billion at the start of the year to $6.5 billion now. The biggest increases are for Somalia (up $235 million to $641 million), Democratic Republic of the Congo (up $161 million to $736 million), West Africa (up $104 million to $416 million), Sudan (up $81 million to $1.95 billion), the Myanmar flash appeal (recently revised up by $294 million, to $481 million) and Zimbabwe (up $78 million, to $394 million).... UNITED NATIONS LAUNCHES FLASH APPEAL FOR NICARAGUA |

New York, 14 September 2007 - The United Nations today launched a Flash Appeal to help meet mounting emergency needs in Nicaragua, after category-five Hurricane Felix made landfall on 4 September, with winds reaching approximately 270 kilometres per hour. The affected zones are located in Nicaragua’s North Autonomous Region (RAAN) of the Atlantic Coast. The appeal calls for $22,870,535 for emergency life-saving relief for 162,373 people and an additional $16,380,100 as the estimated initial requirement for early recovery for assistance over the next six months. The total required is $39,250,635, a figure that is expected to undergo revision in the coming weeks. Read more... |

So far, only 28 per cent of the 2006 Liberia CAP has been funded, with total contributions amounting to US$40,593,747. Following a review of the projects proposed in November 2005, as well as the addition of several new high-priority projects, the Liberia Humanitarian Mid-Year Appeal 2006 is asking donors to contribute an additional US$ 104,125,552.
