  • 19-21 July 2005: Conference on "The Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC)" - held at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The conference brought together over 800 participants and was a culmination of a three-year world-wide civil society-led process that focused on generating a new international consensus on peacebuilding and the prevention of violent conflict. Predominant throughout the conference and also as outlined in the Global Action Agenda (in PDF) was the necessity for a paradigm shift in the security area. Many felt that the human security framework provides a very effective lens through which to address the root causes of conflict and to link the security, development and human rights agendas as outlined in the Secretary-General's report to the Millennium+5 Summit. Many stressed that sustainable security of states will not be achieved without greater justice, development and human security for all.

  • 26-27 May 2005: Workshop on "Regional Dynamics of Human Security" - hosted by the UN Dialogue with the Global South at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and funded by the UNTFHS where Dr. Frene Ginwala, member of the CHS, presented the keynote address at the opening session.   • 8-20 May 2005: The Seventh Ministerial Meeting of the Human Security Network - hosted by the Canadian Government in Ottawa, Canada.

  • 28-29 April 2005: Conference on "Human Security and Development Assistance" - by the Japanese-German Center Berlin (JGCB) in Berlin.

  • 26 April 2005: "High Level Dialogue on Human Security in the North Caucasus" - co-organized with the Office of the Commissioner for Human Rights in the Russian Federation in Moscow.

  • 14-15 March 2005: International Conference on "Human Security in Arab States" - organized by the Regional Human Security Center at the Jordan Institute of Diplomacy and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Amman, Jordan. [More...]
