4 June 2012: Member States will meet at the General Assembly for a plenary debate on the Secretary-General's second report on human security (A/66/763).
8 May 2012: This month’s Conflict Prevention & Resolution Forum, organized by Search for Common Ground and 3P Human Security in Washington D.C., was dedicated to the topic of ‘Human Security in Practice’. Panelists described how the United Nations, the U.S. Government, and civil society organizations are operationalizing human security in diverse contexts, and discussed different approaches and common understandings on the application of human security. Mr. Yukio Takasu, Special Adviser to the UN Secretary-General on Human Security, joined a panel of distinguished speakers including Mary Kaldor, Director, Civil Society and Human Security Research Unit at the London School of Economics; Sean McFate, Assistant Professor, Department of International Security Studies at the National Defense University; and William Tsuma, Program Manager, Preventive Action and Human Security at Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict (GPPAC). In the afternoon, a roundtable discussion hosted by the Connect U.S. and moderated by 3P Human Security, brought together stakeholders working in the US Government, United Nations, European Union, World Bank and civil society organizations to share views on the application of the concepts of human security, civilian security, civilian protection, and related terms with a view towards identifying shared principles and clarifying usages in diverse contexts.
