Emergency Humanitarian Response Plan 2008 Réduire

In response to the post election crisis, the humanitarian country team put into place a number of emergency coordination mechanisms to assist with the response and advocacy.  These included the roll out of the cluster approach and the formation of the Inter-Agency Standing Committee (IASC).  For the Kenya context 11 clusters  were identified with two sub-clusters  in order to ensure a more accountable and predictable response. At the same time, humanitarian partners responded quickly by establishing field hubs in affected areas.

In coordination with the Government of Kenya and the Kenya Red Cross Society, the UN launched an Emergency Humanitarian Response Plan (EHRP) in January 2008 that was then revised in April 2008 following the emergence of further humanitarian needs due to continued unrest, and poor expected rainfall and its effect on the 2008 harvest..  Within this framework 13 UN agencies and 37 NGOs and INGO’s requested a total of USD 191 million for 140 projects in 10 sectors.
