 Pandemic Influenza Contigency Minimize

PIC Strategy

PIC seeks to generate and maintain high level awareness and readiness of the UN systems, national governments and the humanitarian community for the next influenza pandemic.

PIC strategy within the region entails measurement, advocacy and coordination as entry points.
Measurement; PIC uses a business process based on indicators of UN global and national preparedness, thus by building on available baseline data PIC will measure progress, analyze results and design or synergize existing assistance tools accordingly.
Advocacy; PIC develops and disseminates various packaged materials and presentations that advocate for greater pandemic readiness.
Assistance; PIC devotes greater time and resources in supporting UNCTs prepare, and in effect assist their host governments appropriately. This includes pandemic simulations or desk top testing of existing plans or missions to provide support in situ.
Coordination; PIC works to promote coordination of efforts among the wide range UN, government and non government actors involved in multisectoral preparedness ; PIC facilitates activities of the Inter Agency Standing Committee i.e. IASC based “humanitarians in pandemic “ this is primarily achieved through regional and sub regional platforms created by the regional planning officer.
