Field Presence
In addition to the field offices in
Iraq
and the
occupied Palestinian territory
, OCHA has several field presences in the Middle East, North Africa and Central Asia region. The
National Disaster Response Office in Tehran
, supports the Government of Iran with its disaster preparedness and response measures. From Almaty, the office of the
Regional Disaster Response Advisor
maintains a watching brief over Central Asia; Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Kyrgyzstan. A
Pandemic Influenza Contingency
(PIC) unit was also established in Cairo as an outpost of the OCHA Regional Office in Dubai. From this office, PIC focuses on greater readiness of the UN System, national governments and the humanitarian community in the Middle East and North Africa for the next influenza pandemic or other similar international catastrophe.
